WOUNDED READINGS by Claus Carstensen
WOUNDED READINGS
Books 1975-2018. Paintings 2018-2020
by Claus Carstensen
February 27 - March 21, 2020
An exhibition presenting the full collection of books by Claus Carstensen, as well as new paintings. For the first time since 1993, this exhibition brings together all Cartsensen’s books and many more have been
added to his oeuvre since then. In the exhibition, visitors are invited to interact with all the
books, as they will be presented on tables in chronological order.
Carstensen has worked with the book as part of his artistic practice since 1975. Today his
books count 103 publications and consist of catalogues, artist books, poems, essays as well
as catalogues of exhibitions he has done as a curator. Carstensen does not distinguish
between the individual genres, but considers all his books as equals.
The exhibition also features 12 new paintings. Six of the paintings are from a series Carstensen started in 2018. The paintings are made from acquired portrait paintings, which he subsequently vandalized, by, among other things, scratching out the eyes. In addition, Carstensen also shows four brand new large collage paintings and two paintings that are made from lithographic rubber blankets.
On the occasion of the exhibition, Bladr, in collaboration with Carstensen, publishes a complete bibliography depicting his many years of work with the book as art form and media. The catalog will be published during the spring and will be launched at Bladr.
