Bladr proudly presents the exhibition “Textile” by visual artist Åse Eg Jørgensen. This is the first of several exhibitions unfolding Jørgensens on-going artist’s book project Compendium, transforming it into a spatial and tactile experience. The Compendium-series deal with a range of issues where the keywords are collecting, mapping, and the archival. The first publication came out in 2010 and as of today, the series comprise 38 pieces.

“There are colours and shapes that vibrate against the eye, surfaces and materials that it gives deep satisfaction to let one’s hand stroke and one’s fingertips read, to press the cheeks against and to let one’s lips slide over.” (from Danish Artists’ Books, 2013) This is Jørgensens description of experiencing attraction to objects that have that certain ‘something’; something that cannot quite be described, but can be felt. And that one might like to store in a collection…

The exhibition “Textile” takes off from the compendia Texts on Textile, Thread, and Text and Textile. In these compendia, Jørgensen presents us in a neutral way with materials and texts, inaugurating new forms of connectivity and causality. The publications turn into a kind of ‘textbook’ on the complexity of materials, while also touching upon a feminist agenda. The exhibition showcases new prints of select page spreads and some of the textile pieces from the compendia, encouraging the audience to interact with the latter.
